Sip, Savor, Share: A New Coastal Classic in Carolina Forest

Myrtle Beach’s craft beer scene is experiencing a major growth spurt, and the newest player on the field isn't just joining the lineup—it’s changing the game. South Coast Beer Project, which opened in the spring of 2026, is the first brewery to plant roots in the rapidly growing Carolina Forest area.

Built from the ground up by Chris Evans and Susan Heryadi of Coastal Concepts Hospitality—the team behind local favorites like The Grumpy Monk and The Sneaky Beagle—this project is their first concept designed and constructed from an empty field. The result is a massive 9,000-square-foot indoor space complemented by a sprawling 25,000-square-foot "backyard" that functions as a community gathering spot.

The beer program is led by Head Brewer Brock Kurtzman, a veteran of the local scene with experience at New South Brewing and Southern Hops. Operating on a 7-barrel system, Kurtzman maintains a rotating lineup of 8 to 12 house-brewed labels

The flagship selection features beers with names that pay homage to the Carolinas and coastal life:

  • Blondes Do It Better”: An approachable American blonde ale.

  • “Queen Anne’s Revenge”: A unique mocha white stout named after Blackbeard’s infamous ship.

  • “Board Meeting”: A classic American brown ale.

  • “Summer in the South”: A refreshing raspberry wheat.

  • “All Roads Lead West”: A crisp West Coast IPA.

For those looking for non-alcoholic options, they also brew their own Hop Water and White Peach Hop Water in-house.

What sets South Coast apart is its commitment to being a family-friendly venue that caters specifically to locals. The interior features a "coastal vibe" with rattan chandeliers and large windows that allow guests to look directly into the brewing process.

However, the real magic happens outside. The expansive outdoor area includes:

  • A massive 18-foot video wall for movie nights and sporting events.

  • A dedicated playground and bounce houses to keep the kids entertained while parents relax.

  • Yard games like oversized Guess Who?, Connect Four, and cornhole.

  • A giant beer mug fountain that pours continuously into a pool, adding a touch of whimsy to the beer garden.

The food is far from an afterthought. The kitchen specializes in Detroit-style pizza and "sauce and char" wings. In a fun nod to pop culture, the pizzas are named after Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles characters—like "The Shredder"—while the sandwich menu features humorous local themes like the “Embrace the Dad Bod” roast beef sandwich.

Perhaps the most innovative feature is the 1,000-foot paved and lighted walking path that connects South Coast Beer Project to its sister restaurant, The Sneaky Beagle. The path winds around a central pond, allowing guests to walk between the two spots with drinks in hand. This creates a "mini-district" experience where you can check wait times or swap vibes without ever leaving the property.

The Final Perspective

Whether you're a local looking for a new "third place" or a visitor seeking an inland detour from the beach, South Coast Beer Project is a must-visit spotlight on the Grand Strand.
